These mini-skeins are born of a love of local fibre and traceability. The wool is pure Shetland, sourced from farms in Wiltshire and Somerset (England) and Ceredigion (Wales) – sorted and graded at Garthenor Organic in Ceredigion, scoured in Yorkshire, spun in Lanarkshire, and plied, twisted and scoured at Garthenor.
The base yarn is Garthenor's Number 2, which is a woollen-spun, 2-fold, 4-ply weight yarn. I took the mini-skeins and dyed them using plants grown in my garden or foraged responsibly from my local area in North Somerset to create harmonious, subtle sets.
The Spring set is dyed with coreopsis, knopper galls, woad and alder on three plain white minis and two marls.
The Autumn set is dyed with privet, bramble, dandelion, alder, onion, and coreopsis on two plain white minis and three marls.
For a larger project, these minis will combine nicely with Marina Skua Mendip 4-Ply. Use the code GARTHENOR to get 10% off Mendip 4-Ply when you buy a mini-skein set.
