A knitting pattern for a fun, warm winter hat with a geometric stranded colourwork motif. Worked in two colours with an optional pom-pom, the hat features a tubular cast-on for a nice stretchy edge. 

The motif on this pattern was inspired by the cosy feeling of being bundled up in warm clothes, ready to go and enjoy a snowy day as sparkling frost sits on window panes. The colourwork on the cowl and hat is simple and perfect as a beginner’s first stranded project!

Finished circumference: 45 (50, 55) cm / 17.5 (19.5, 21.5)”

Yarn: Rico Essentials Soft Merino Aran (100 m per 50 g ball; 100% wool)

MC (shown in Cream 06): 1 (1, 2) balls
CC (shown in Brick Red): 1 (1, 1) ball

Gauge: 20 sts and 22 rounds = 10 cm / 4” in colourwork in the round on larger needles, after blocking

Needles:
5 mm / US 8 circular needle (or size required to obtain correct gauge), 60 cm / 24” length and double-pointed needles or longer circular needle for magic loop, if desired
4.5 mm / US 7 circular needle, 60 cm / 24” length (or needle 1-2 sizes smaller than main needle)
