Welcome the new season with a joyful crafting surprise! This mystery yarn box is designed to bring fresh inspiration to your spring craft projects, whether you're knitting, crocheting, or simply indulging in the beauty of hand-dyed yarn.

Each mystery yarn box contains four 50g skeins of my hand-dyed British wool Mendip yarn, dyed in a harmonious palette of four limited edition colours, perfect for lighter, transitional makes.

This yarn skein option includes a beautiful bundle of hand-dyed Mendip 4-ply or DK yarn for all you knitters, crocheters and other yarn crafters out there. However, if you're more of a spinner, I've got spinning fibre boxes that would be perfect for you too!

I won’t be sharing photos of the colourways as the fun is in the surprise, but if you’d like an idea of the mood and general palette, you can take a look at my mood board here.

Think of this bundle of yarn as a chance to slow down, embrace the changing season, and enjoy the simple pleasure of crafting with hand-dyed British wool.

My Mendip yarn is hand-dyed on two woollen-spun lambswool bases: Sunny and Cloudy. This box contains two colours dyed on Sunny, for clean, bright shades, and two on Cloudy for darker, moody colours.

Sunny is spun from naturally white wool that yields bright, clean colours. Cloudy is a coloured base from blending some dark-coloured wool with white, and has more rustic, moody character. Both bases have a matte finish and pleasant toothiness that is perfect for colour work.

If you'd like me to write a message in the card, include this in the 'special instructions' on check-out. If no message is provided, the card will be left blank for you to write your own message.

TRACEABLE

My Mendip yarn is made from British wool locally sourced from a single flock at Fernhill Farm in the South-West of England, less than 20 miles from my home.

The wool is carefully scoured, then spun at a small mill in Wales. From there, it arrives at my studio in Wiltshire to be dyed.

HAND DYED

I dye all my yarn colours by hand in small batches of up to 10 skeins, in semi-solid and variegated colour ways.

I use synthetic, non-toxic dyes, ensuring excellent colour-fastness so your project will last for years.

SUSTAINABLE

This yarn is 100% natural fibres, with no plastic or superwash process involved, so it will biodegrade naturally over time, along with anything you create from it.

The sheep that provide the wool for this yarn play an important role in a holistic land management system designed to regenerate the soil where they graze.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the Mystery Box (yarn edition)?

This is a yarn-only box, so your mystery box will contain four 50g skeins of Marina Skua hand-dyed Mendip yarn in surprise limited edition colourways.

Can I choose which weight of hand-dyed yarn I receive?

Of course. The yarn edition of the Mystery Box is available in 2 yarn weights, so you have the option to select either 4-Ply or DK skeins when you purchase the box – whichever works best for your future knitting plans.

Can I see the colourways included in the Mystery Box before purchasing?

Nope, the fun is in the surprise! If you'd like a hint on the palette, the mood board is linked in the description above.

Is there enough yarn for a full craft project?

Yes! This is something I wanted to do differently from a lot of advents, as I often find mini skeins really tricky to use in a nice project. It’s also why the box contains four 50g skeins (200g total – 720 metres for Mendip 4-Ply, 480 metres for Mendip DK), providing plenty for a complete project. It's the ideal amount of yarn for a shawl – maybe try my Leoma triangular shawl, changing up the colours of the stripes! Or you could go for Andrea Mowry's classic The Shift cowl and include the extra colour. For some stranded colourwork you could make a couple of versions of Jacki Badger's I Smell Snow hat, switching around the colours for each one.

Are the skeins colour co-ordinated?

The colourways are designed to complement one another in a harmonious colour palette, so they will work beautifully together if you want to use them in a larger project.

Can I purchase more than one box?

Yes, you’re welcome to purchase more than one box should you like more yarn, or some fibre as well, however, each will have the same colourways, so they won’t differ between boxes.

Will these hand-dyed colourways be available again in the future?

No, these colourways are a limited edition run, exclusive to the Mystery Boxes.

Can I return or exchange my Mystery Box?

Due to the surprise nature of the mystery box, returns or exchanges are not accepted unless an item is defective.

When will the boxes ship out?

These are ready to ship, so will be despatched within three working days of you placing your order.
