Deep Field Top – the knitting kit

This listing is for a knitting kit containing a digital PDF download of the knitting pattern and the hand-dyed yarn needed to make the Deep Field Top in your chosen size. Please note, the yarn in the kit is different to the sample worn in the photo; the overall colour palette is darker and more muted.

This starry delight is the perfect slipover to knit for wearing over the festive season, like a slightly toned-down version of a Christmas jumper. The knitting kit is also the perfect Christmas gift for your favourite star- and space-loving knitter.

______

The Deep Field Top is inspired by the endless array of stars and galaxies captured by the Hubble telescope in the famous ‘Deep Field’ image. The little gradient in contrast colours creates the feel that some stars are farther away and dimmer.

This top is worked in the round from the bottom up. Stitches are placed on hold for the underarms, and steek stitches are cast on for the front neck and armholes, and later the back neck. The shoulders are joined with a three-needle cast-off. The steeks are reinforced and cut, and stitches are picked up and worked in ribbing for the neckband and armholes.

Included in this knitting kit:

  • A PDF download of the Deep Field pattern
  • 3 (3, 3, 4, 4) [4, 4, 5, 5] skeins of Mendip 4-Ply in Night (Cloudy)
  • 1 skein of Mendip 4-Ply in Chick (Cloudy)
  • 2 (2, 2, 2, 2) [2, 2, 3, 3] skeins of Mendip 4-Ply in Chick (Sunny)
  • 1 skein of Mendip 4-Ply in Sheep (Sunny)

Please note, the sample top pictured is NOT the colourway you are buying - see the yarn image for the yarn colours included in the knitting kit.
