Wool tops sampler box/spinning kit – undyed
This is a sampler box of my undyed British breeds blends of wool top for spinning. Choose a box of the fibre on its own to try out my wool blends, or add a drop spindle for everything you need to start spinning your own yarn. It's also the perfect gift for spinners or soon-to-be spinners!
25 grams of each blend will be just enough fibre to familiarise yourself with the blend and knit or crochet up a couple of swatches. 100 grams of each blend is plenty to play with and would create enough yarn for a whole array of experiments and projects.
Packaging note: if you purchase other small items alongside this sampler set, they will be packaged inside the box. If you are purchasing the fibre samples as a gift and would like the other item(s) to be packaged alongside so you don't need to open the box, please add a note to your order before checking out.
The blends are called Skua, Tilth, Solace and Feather, and each corresponds well to a season of the year: Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer respectively.
Skua
Dorset Horn (white), Teeswater (grey), Manx Loaghtan (mid brown), Jacobs (black) and Cheviot (light grey).
This is a blend of naturally coloured British breeds that I designed to combine the qualities I most love in wool for spinning. It's got a lot of rich depth – each of the breeds I inclulded in the blend is a different natural colour and texture, which spins up to a warm mid grey. It's a delight to spin and one I would strongly recommend for beginners.
Tilth
Black Welsh Mountain, Jacobs and Shetland (all black), Bluefaced Leicester (dark brown) and Suffolk (grey).
This is blended from very dark naturally coloured native British breeds, creating a moody blend with a salt-and-pepper feel – when spun it comes to a very dark grey with a tinge of warmth. Despite its rustic appearance, the fibre is suprisingly soft with a lot of comforting crimp, which creates a bouncy yarn.
Solace
Dorset Horn and Cotswold (both white) and Shropshire (dark grey).
Solace is a blend of British Breeds from the west of England that I designed for a dreamy, fluffy fibre with both crimp and a tiny bit of lustre, which spins up quite crisp with a little halo. The white and naturally grey wool combine for an overall misty light grey.
Feather
Wensleydale, Teeswater and Bluefaced Leicester (all white) and Shetland (mid brown).
Feather is a blend of British Breeds that I designed to combine lots of silky lustre and a little bit of halo. This blend is perfectly suited to smooth, worsted style spinning and will spin beautifully into a fine yarn. The combination of white and mid-brown British wool gives a gentle, warm oatmeal colour when spun up.
