Wooden drop spindle – top whorl
If you’ve ever fancied having a go at learning to spin your own yarn, a top-whorl drop spindle like this is the perfect tool to start with. It’s a simple, beginner-friendly wooden spindle that allows you to try out hand spinning without the huge investment of a spinning wheel. You can use it with all sorts of fibres: wool tops, alpaca and plant fibres, whatever you have in your fibre stash (If you’re running low, I have a selection of hand-dyed spinning fibre you might like).
I actually learned to spin on one of these drop spindles myself, years ago, and I still think they’re one of the best tools for getting started with making your own yarn.
